About me and this site
About me…..
My name is Bryce Mackintosh, I am 37 years old, and have been investing for around 12 years. My first 5 years were a disaster (lost £7,000 which was big money for me at the time), but the last 7 have been great.
Professionally, I am a business analyst for a large investment bank, where incidentially, I work too hard. Previously, I have been employed by numerous other asset managers who manage billions.
I have started my own companies in the past, both in the UK and Hong Kong, and have been involved in many industries, from Construction, FMCG, Power, Financial and IT, and feel I can assess business’s pretty well..
As you might expect I know what Fund Managers do, and if any of you think they have magical powers …. then don’t. You are at an advantage. Read Warren Buffet or Peter Lynch’s books to find out why.
About this site..
By finding this site, you probably already appreciate that Warren Buffet is a legendary value investor, and so, in this Blog I will attempt to follow his principles and apply them to buying and selling stocks in my own pension portfolio. Who knows, I may be the next Warren Buffet, the Sage of Omaha. I’m starting with £18,000 (approx USD34,000).
My influences for investing are mainly Warren Buffet’s and he eschews the following principles,
- Value Investing i.e. purchasing a stock due to its value rather than its price movement
- Committing to paper on why you should own a stock, before you buy it
Most of all, he emphasises,
- Buying companies with a sustainable competitive advantage
He loves to buy great companies at cheap prices, or as he calls it, fractional interests of Prince like companies at Toad like prices.
My gains have been good so far. Let’s hope they continue.
